About

Originally from Tokyo, Japan, and musically shaped in New York City, he went on to build an international career through extensive collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto and touring worldwide alongside him.

Following the release of his debut album, Planetary Folklore (WEA/East West), he adopted the name Ajapai and became one of the early innovators of dubstep. His work led to collaborations with Excision and performances at venues and festivals around the world.

Yet this project reveals another side of his artistic journey. Far removed from the dance floor, it is a deeply personal body of work and the culmination of a lifelong pursuit. Inspired by mountains, forests, and the ever-changing rhythms of nature, he crafts immersive sonic landscapes that invite listeners into a contemplative world.

Chances are, he is somewhere in the mountains right now.

More of his signature sonic landscapes will emerge in time.
